Data Comics and Graphic Medicine

Since the pandemic came in, data comics has been one of the effective ways of reaching the community as a form of education as they are more literate in explaining the bigger picture about covid-19 in a pictorial representation (Wallace, 2020). The pandemic has called for change of behaviors to indoor lifestyle where precautions set by the WHO need to be addressed as seen in the video below. Graphic medicine presents a list of the deadliest epidemics with the lives claimed, the latest being Spanish flu referred to as mother of all pandemics (Taubenberger & Morens, 2006) with a death toll of 75 million people as a sign that we have to be covid-19 chronicles by following the rules to lower risk of being affected.

The development of a vaccine is underway and this aspires people with hope of survival through this pandemic, the Sars-CoV-2 virus is reported to have shown signs of mutation and variants in the UK (Briggs, 2021) thanks to the social media platforms where people share their experiences with the virus. This might trickle another lockdown while the current vaccine proves still to be effective.
